Northbeat was formed to promote the dance and music of Scotland. Our aim is to provide opportunities for all to learn and enjoy the very best from the Scottish tradition.

Music Marketing Forum

A unique Music Industry event will be taking place in Hawick on Sunday 9th April 2006, between 1.00pm – 5.00pm at The Mansfield House Hotel.

If you are a singer, songwriter, composer, musician, band member or if you are interested in any aspect of the music industry, then this is the event for you. The afternoon will cover many aspects of performing, recording and promoting your music. All genres of music will be covered and all of our speakers have many years of experience in their area of expertise.

Dave Arcari – Musicians’ Union Scotland, Dave is also a guitarist & songwriter. He will be talking about the role of the Musicians’ Union for performers, and the various ways in which the MU can help you.

Gordon Campbell – Songwriter and Director of ‘The Music Kitchen’, Edinburgh. Gordon will discuss the recording process, and CD pressing options.

Ian Green – Managing Director of ‘Greentrax’, Scotland’s largest record label. Ian will handle recording contracts, distribution and promotion of your product.

Ronnie Gurr – Ronnie has a wealth of experience in the music industry and will talk about some of the pitfalls and how to avoid them.

Duncan McCrone – MCPS Scotland, Duncan will also speak about PRS. Duncan is a well known Scottish singer and songwriter with many years’ experience of Copyright, Publishing and Performing Rights

Andrew McEwan – Radio DJ and ‘The Web Workshop’. Andrew will discuss the importance of artists’ Web presence, online selling and promotion. Andrew will also be covering radio airplay and promoting your music via radio.

Murray Buchannan - Music Industry Lawyer. He will discuss the legality of recording contracts and how to keep on the right side of the law.

Delegates will have the opportunity to put any questions to the speakers during a question and answer session. The forum will be chaired by Karin Ingram (Northbeat, Editor of Box & Fiddle and Dance On! Magazines and Radio Borders Presenter)
