One of Scotland’s finest fiddle players, Charlie McKerron won the Daily
Record Golden Fiddle Award in 1983. He
has been a member of “Capercaillie“,
Scotland’s foremost Celtic band, for fifteen years. An accomplished composer, Charlie’s music has been widely
recorded for film and television and he has contributed to the film “Rob
Roy”. Over the years he has
performed with a great variety of artistes and, as well as performing with
“Capercaillie”, Charlie can be seen gigging with many other artistes
including Maggie McInnes and Brian McAlpine, Sandra Mackay, Big Sky and,
most recently, Session A9.
He
formed RAJ (Real Acoustic Jam) Records, releasing an album of fiddle music
(The Explosive Fiddlers). Charlie
is developing the label and his mobile recording studio and is delighted
to release the Session A9 CD.
In 2002 Charlie also
co-wrote with Donald Shaw the soundtrack for the BBC drama “Gruth is
Uachdar” (“Crowdie and Cream”) for which they received the Royal
Television Society Award for best title track and best score. He
has just finished recording a new studio album with Capercaillie to be
released in spring and is currently composing documentary music for an
independent television production.
A veteran of The
Island Fling, Charlie’s talent and humour always enhance the
proceedings!
