Sandra Mackay

Sandra was born and brought up on the Isle of Lewis.  Her love of Gaelic music began at the age of five when she would compete at the local Mods.

She left the island in 1987 and moved to Edinburgh where she became involved in the traditional music scene and was one of the founder members of the band Tannas.  With Tannas she performed at festivals throughout Europe and regularly toured in Italy, France and Spain.  They recorded three CDs Oighreachd, RuRa and Suilean Dubh.

She has sung with many different artists, performing on recordings with Alan Stivell, Big Sky, Anna Murray and has also appeared on numerous television productions.

Sandra has taken up acting and has appeared in the short film “An Clach Gorm” as well as taking part in comedy sketches.  She has recently completed some narration for folklore cartoons.

Sandra can most often be seen singing with The Scottish Stepdance Company, who released their debut album last year.

She is currently planning her first solo album, which she hopes to release by the end of this year with some of her own songs.
